Natick Mall, Natick, MA (September 12, 2006) - The new Natick promises
to elevate the shopping experience for customers who visit the Phase I
renovation of the 1.1 million square-foot property. As this
exciting work-in-progress nears completion, shoppers will see beautiful
new architectural and design features - a remarkable preview of what's
in store for this unique redevelopment. The official
opening of Phase I will be in November of this year. Phase II of
the project, opening in September of 2007, includes the addition of 100
luxury stores and restaurants as well as 215 luxury condominium
residences.
The new interior design is contemporary and relaxing, with lighting
that softly illuminates the space. Warmly-toned ceramic floor
tiles cover the mall's first level. In the food court the tiles
are set to form feminine curved patterns. Exotic Jatoba or
"Brazilian Cherry" wood floors on the second level have an inviting,
rich appearance. Throughout the space, elegant wood and glass baluster
handrails with stainless steel accents create a light and airy
environment. The food court resembles an urban marketplace with
"S" curved banquettes covered in contemporary striped fabric and modern
wooden chairs with woven strap upholstery. Bamboo plants and
entries covered in stone and Ipê wood, a beautiful tropical
material, create an atmosphere of calm.
"The renovations to the existing mall give an excellent preview
of what's to come in the expansion. The finishes are warm,
contemporary and elegant. The total effect will be an entirely
exciting, new environment," said Stephanie A. Gambino, senior marketing
manager of Natick Mall. She continued, "It's thrilling to watch
the transformation and we are looking forward to sharing our vision
with mall visitors as we lead up to the grand reopening of this phase
of the project. And we will be announcing an exciting series of
events during the month of November that will help celebrate the
completion of the renovation."
The internationally renowned architects and planners for the new Natick
are Beyer Blinder Belle (BBB). The materials they have selected
for the renovation will mirror and complement those incorporated into
the expansion, creating a seamless design and character to the
completed property.
The Natick Mall was last renovated in 1994, when construction increased
its size from 725,000 to its current 1.1 million square feet. The
resulting redeveloped mall, with 167 new stores, a remodeled food
court, quickly became one of New England's premier shopping
destinations. Natick has seen few changes until now, and this
first phase renovation will be an exciting prelude to the final
rendition which will include a 550,000 square foot wing, slated to open
in September 2007.
General Growth Properties, owner and developer of Natick Mall, is
adding an additional 1 million square feet of new space onto the 15
acres of land adjacent to the property. Phase II construction of
the expanded wing will feature 550,000 square-feet of
luxury retail and restaurants featuring Nordstrom and Neiman
Marcus. Further, 215 luxury condominium residences will open in
February 2008. Additional plans include a hotel, meandering bike
path, public walkway, and rooftop garden the size of two football
fields for exclusive use by condominium residents.
